As part of our approach at Noremarsh, we are asking the children to ensure that they are reading at least three times a week at home, ideally more.
Each child is provided with a yellow reading record book which will be checked weekly. This is to show what reading activities your child has done. They could include individual reading, reading with an adult, sibling or friend or reading to a younger sibling.
We understand that your child may be reluctant if they are tired or haven’t found the right book.
It may help instead to read to them or take it in turns to read a page each. Also, please encourage them to visit both their classroom book corner and our school library where we have invested in many new, wonderful books.
Similarly, we have a range of interesting magazine and newspaper subscriptions. We open the library after school on Mondays if you would like to visit with your child to choose a book or magazine together. At the moment this is not possible as we have had to relocate classrooms because of the flooded classrooms, we will let you know when it is back up and running.
Additionally, and thanks to our parent volunteers, the library will be available at some lunchtimes during the week. We are always looking for parent volunteers to help support the running of the library and assisting with tasks such as shelving books, organizing materials, helping students find resources, and promoting a love for reading. If you are interested in becoming a parent helper for our library, please fill in a parent helper application form that you can get from Mrs Beard in the school office.
We ask that your child has their reading record with them every day in school and that you sign it each week. Please do not worry too much about the ‘comments’ section, just a short note is fine
There are plenty of online resources too for when you want to sit back and enjoy along with your children!
