Online Safety at Noremarsh

Please download our Safety Guide below.

As our children move up through the school their access to various types of technology increases as does their exploration and curiosity. The NSPCC are the first to admit that the internet is amazing. Children can play, learn, create and connect – opening up a whole world of exciting possibilities. But with the digital world changing all the time, how can you make sure your child’s staying safe? The advantages of the digital world are clear but the internet can be an unsafe place for our children if they are left with unrestricted access.

At Noremarsh we teach our children about online safety in every year group at an age appropriate level as part of the Computing curriculum. The safe use of social media and the internet will also be covered in other subjects where relevant. We use assemblies to raise children’s awareness of the potential dangers that can be encountered online and may also invite speakers to talk to children about it. However, we need your help and we all need to be aware of the potential online risks that our children face.

How you can help and support your child

Computing Curriculum

At Noremarsh we look at social media and the internet, how to report any concerns including bullying, misuse or abuse and also how to be a good ‘online’ friend.

We want to work with our children and families about online safety, so if you have any concerns about your child’s online behaviour and do not know where to go for more information you can use these pages in the first instance. If this does not provide you with the answers or reassurance you need please contact Mrs Beard or Mrs Sherwood in the school office in the first instance, who will be able to help and signpost you to the right direction on 01793 852250 or by emailing us on admin@njs.ascendlearningtrust.org.uk

You can help by talking to your child about the apps, sites and games they and their friends are using, specifically:

  • Who they are using them with – are they friends they have met and know in person or ‘online’ friends?
  • How long has you child been using them?
  • When they use them (late at night / in bedrooms is not helpful for a good night’s sleep and for teaching and learning at school the next day!)

Social Media

Many social media platforms have a minimum age of 13  (WhatsApp is 13+).

We encourage all of our families to work with us to educate and monitor social media usage and to respect age ratings on social media platforms.
